General information
The Bako National Park is located in Sarawak, a state of eastern Malaysia, on
the island of Borneo. Millions of years of erosion of the sandstone have created
a coastline of steep cliffs, spectacular sea cliffs and stretches of sandy bays.
The most well-known landmark of Bako National Park is the sea stack in front of
the beautiful beach of Pandan Kecil, that resembles a cobra head coming out of
the water. The park is also home to the highly endangered proboscis monkey known
for their big noses.

bako national park
Bako offers outstanding diversity of natural landscapes in a relatively small
area. Its beautifully dense rainforests and stunning beaches are home to the rare proboscis monkey. Try and spot them during
low tide as they forage in the exposed Mangrove tree swamps. There are 16
color-coded jungle trails as well as lodges for overnight stays - which you have
to book early. On the high ground, look out for pitcher plants. Beware of the monkeys they are very mischievous! Also there is a broad range of trekking options.

Reviews
"Stayed in the new terraces, which were clean and spacious. Wildlife everywhere! Followed 2 families of proboscis monkeys all along the main beach one afternoon into the evening! Trails too much for little kids, but as ours had upset tummies from Kuching, we stayed around the main beach and relaxed there, and enjoyed seeing lots of wildlife without needing to go far! Recommended!

"it's a fantastic place to see the wildlife - probosis monkey and the common macaques. We didn't get to see the bearded pigs (or wild boars).
The journey there and back was very dramatic. We took one of the little sampans out late morning but stuck in the low tide! We had to get off and help push and dragged the sampan out to the open sea... Took us about an hour under the hot sun. When we got there, the boatman dropped us off a beach and we had to wade thru the waters and climbed to the park while our earlier party was waiting.
The journey back is the one that I was most scared off. There was a storm and the little life vests doesn't offer any help at all! Good thing the boatman was experienced and he was chasing all the crest and this is really not for the faint-hearted! I've never prayed so much before in my life. Thank you we had a lovely stay! :) "
